Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in our first session?

At our first meting you will have the opportunity to tell me what brings you to therapy. I will ask questions to learn more about you, what you are seeking help for, what your strengths are, and what challenges you. After our meeting, I will provide an assessment of the session and recommendations on how we can work together to approach your situation. We will also talk about the types of interventions that we may use as well as set goals for future meetings. This process can take one to three sessions.

How long is a course of therapy?

The course and length of therapy is utimately determined by you because only you are in charge of your life and how you feel, as well as the amount of time and energy you put forth toward working on your goals. Many clients report a noticable change within five to seven sessions.

Is our work confidential?

It is my responsibility to provide complete privacy and confidentiality. Per Virginia State law, confidentiality will be protected unless there is indication that a child, elder or disabled person is being abused, you share with me intention to harm yourself or others, or I am under a judge's order to share case information. Should confidentiality need to be broken, I will only disclose the information pertinent to the current situation as I hold your confidentiality in high regard.

Do you take insurance?
As a Resident in Counseling, I do not accept insurance; However, some insurance providers do cover this, so I encourage you to ask your provider if they cover out-of-network pre-liscensed counseling.

To learn more about your specific mental health coverage, ask your provider the following questions:

  • Do I have in(or)out-of-network mental health benefits with a non-licesnsed counselor?

  • What is my deductible

  • Has my deducable been met?

  • How many counseling sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?

  • How much does my plan cover for an in(or)out-of-network provider?

  • Is approval/pre-certification required?

What are fees and forms of payment?

My fee structure has been outlined on the fees and insurance page. However, please note that I am willing to work on a sliding scale based off of your W-2.

Do you have a cancellation policy?
At least 24-hour notification is required to reschedule or cancel appointments. Without this notification, you will be expected to pay the $50 fee described on the fees and insurance page. I completely understand that they will be situations that arise for all my clients and ask them to also understand that I am not paid unless I see the client. I do not feel comfortable charging the full amount of a session, which is why the fee is set at $50. This policy is strictly enforced.

Is there a free phone consultation?
Yes, you may call 703.596.5839 for a brief phone consultation to see if and how I can help you. Please note that this consultation usually takes about 10 minutes.
